Laura and Laurence Wills

“Laurence and I met at Easter Seals Camp Horizon, both working during the summer of 2016 as counsellors.

But we didn’t work together on a team until Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Camp Got2Go. The week was absolutely brilliant and full of laughter with our group of boys. It was also incredibly helpful to the campers to have Laurence there as he knew what they’ve gone through and was a huge support for them. During the final day when we had our big meeting in Main Hall where campers got to share what camp meant to them—all of our campers went up and said such beautiful things about camp and the importance of knowing other kids/people with Crohn’s and colitis.

I know for Laurence that was an “Aha!” moment, because he was able to share his story about his journey with Crohn’s with people who understood—and that was a first for him, even at the age of 20.

We became very close during Camp Got2Go and even though we were leaving camp—Laurence to England and me back to Ontario—we decided to take a chance and do a long distance relationship. A year and a visa application later, I moved to England to be with Laurence. We are also incredibly happy to report that since our relationship started Laurence has been in remission and hasn’t had a flare since that summer at camp!

We hope to one day return and volunteer with you all again. For now, we just want to say thank you.”

All our love,

Laurence and Laura Wills
