Every year, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada launches grant competitions for two funding programs, Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIA) and Innovations in IBD Research (INN). The organization also supports trainees through the TRIANGLE funding program.

The 2026 GIA competition will launch on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The GIA program supports research projects directly related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that are aligned with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s Promise and funding priorities. Funding is limited to a maximum of $125,000 per year, for up to three years, contingent upon available funds.
In 2026, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada will fund 4 GIA grants. The previous GIA grant competition cycle had a 16% funding rate.
Deadlines
Applications must be submitted through a two-stage application process. Applicants who submit a Notice of Intent are invited to submit a Full Application by the deadline specified.
Key dates for the 2026 competition:
- Launch date: December 17, 2025
- Notice of Intent deadline: January 23, 2026
- Full Application deadline: February 23, 2026
- Grant review meeting: May 2026
- Funding decision notification: June 2026

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada will not be running an Innovations in IBD grant competition in 2026.
The Innovations in IBD research grant funds novel or innovative approaches to IBD research. This grant is intended to stimulate and support research which may not be encompassed within the boundaries of traditional medical research. Proposals must conform to sound principles of research and may aim to collect pilot data for follow-on application(s). Crohn’s and Colitis Canada seeks mission relevance and excellence as well as innovation.
Grants of a maximum of $50,000 for one year may be awarded. The 2024 INNs had a 13% funding rate.
