How will YOU make a difference this Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Month?
GUTSY brothers making it STOP – by growing beards for a year!
2 men, 2 beards and one big dream. Mike and Marty Speyer are on a mission to raise awareness and funds for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Mike was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1997 and through the nearly 30 medical procedures undergone, his family has been there. Collaborating with his younger brother Marty, the brothers had a unique idea. What if they grew their beards for an entire year and asked people to donate to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada as encouragement for the beards to continue growing?
The idea worked two-fold, they would be able to raise funds to help make a difference in the Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis communities but they would also be wearing their message on their face. When people comment on their beards Mike and Marty see it as an opportunity to speak about these diseases, the impact they have had on their family and how everyone can be part of the solution.
Recruiting more than 50 other “yeardos” to date, the brothers hope to sign up many more. Interested participants can sign up to join the project by going here. Create a profile and customize it with photos and videos to show the before and document your progress along the way. The brothers are also very active on social media so be sure to reach out to them and let them know that you’ve joined or to cheer them on while the beards continue to grow!
Already signed up and need some beard grooming products? Mike and Marty have thought of that too. They have launched a store on their site selling beard oils, balms and other merchandise - all with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. These amazing men have found their own way to talk about these diseases and a fun way to raise funds to make it stop. For life. What will you do this November for Crohn’s & Colitis Month?
